Battery Labels

Because our lives are being powered more and more by products that contain Lithium Batteries, the safe transport of these products has become an even greater concern. America’s Finest Labels provides a variety of labels that satisfy the labeling and safe handling requirements for ground transportation as set forth in 49 CFR 172.704; air transport per IATA Section 1.5; and ocean transport per IMDG Code 1.3.1.
All of America’s Finest Labels’ Battery labels are printed on gloss paper or vinyl with permanent pressure sensitive adhesive. They are manufactured to stay where you place them and withstand the elements. They are designed according to the Hazard Communication Standard, with bold color and clear design. Our labels are printed with UV inks on scratch-resistant material to keep your message looking good and communicating clearly for the duration of their journey.


Regulations Update

Effective January 2019, the new marks and labels for lithium battery shipments as regulated by DOT, IATA, and IMDG are required. The two year transition period from the "old" marks and labels to the "new" marks and labels has expired.

Lithium batteries are classified in Class 9 Miscellaneous Goods:
  • UN3090 - Lithium metal batteries
  • UN3480 - Lithium ion batteries
For batteries inside a piece of equipment or packed separately with a piece of equipment to power that equipment:
  • UN3091 - Lithium metal batteries contained in equipment or lithium metal batteries packed with equipment
  • UN3481 - Lithium ion batteries contained in equipment or lithium ion batteries packed with equipment
